EVENT ID 2548 – SHAREPOINT SERVER SEARCH

I have built a new SharePoint 2013 environment and after provisioning a new Search Service Application the following was regularly being logged in the Application Event Log:
Content Plugin cannot be initialized -  list of CSS addresses is not set
EventID_2548
After a fair amount of Googling and looking through logs I learned that this was caused by the Search Service Application not being fully provisioned.  After removing and recreating the Search Service Application these errors went away.

Deployment error "The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site"

I've developed a webpart that deploys and works properly in my DEV environment. When I attempt to deploy to PROD I get the following error: SOMESERVER : http://acme.com/ : SharePoint - 41981 : Error: The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\41981\web.config. SOMESERVER : http://acme.com/ : SharePoint - 41981 : Error: The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\41981\web.config. SOMESERVER1 : http://acme.com/ : SharePoint - 23994 : Error: The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\23994\web.config.
